TRAINEESHIPS AT RENDERFARM.FI

The award winning free volunteer computing based rendering service Renderfarm.fi is looking for software developers for traineeship positions at the LaureaSID (Service Innovation and Design) Networks laboratory in Espoo, Finland from October 1st 2011 onwards. You can apply until otherwise noted. The traineeships are for 3 - 6 month periods.

Renderfarm.fi is an award winning free volunteer computing based rendering service with over 5000 registered users worldwide. By using Renderfarm.fi, graphic artists and animators benefit from, among other things, the ability to use higher image quality and higher resolution when rendering. Renderfarm.fi also enables and encourages everybody to participate in the rendering of stills and animations, regardless of whether they themselves are able to create 3D graphics. By dividing the work among hundreds of volunteering computers, an animation that might take months to render on single computer can be completed in days.

Laurea SID Networks is a creative development environment located at Laurea Leppävaara (Vanha maantie 9, Espoo, Finland) and is a part of Laurea University of Applied Sciences. Our focus is in R&D projects that combine modern networking technology with distributed working methods.

Your task:

Your primary working task is to work as full-time developer and maintainer for volunteer computing based distributed rendering service Renderfarm.fi. You will work closely together with the project manager on implementing new features to both the web site and its open source back-end (BURP, Big and Ugly Rendering Project). You will work together with other contributors who often function from remote locations. The primary language for the placement is English, but skills in Finnish are appreciated.

Requirements:

  • Student or graduate from a University or equivalent third level education institution
  • Proficient in at least three of the following programming languages: C/C++, Java, Python, PHP, Javascript
  • Able Linux skills
  • Good communication skills in English (written and spoken)
  • Good understanding of software architecture
  • Ability to work full time (37,5 hour per week)

Beneficial:

  • Advanced programming and/or Linux skills
  • Knowledge of the principles of 3D, 3D softwares and/or 3D rendering engines
  • Open source development background
  • Personal knowledge of Drupal, Blender, BOINC and/or VirtualBox
  • Proficiency at creating graphics (all artistic and creative tendency appreciated here)
