Licensing of rendered output

Make sure you are also familiar our terms of use and policies.

The output of rendered sessions is covered by copyright. All rights are by default reserved to the author of the session; this includes the right to redistribute and use the output commercially.

However, people wanting to use the rendering power offered by Renderfarm.fi need to choose an output license from the ones offered by the service. We base our licensing on the alternatives of Creative Commons listed below. The selected license will govern how the community and the public may use the output.

Please note that the session owner is free to use the output for whatever purpose regardless of the selected license - even use the output commercially or also release it under a different license. The selected license is merely our guarantee that the output will at least be released with that level of freedom.

Common questions

One of the most common questions we get about the licensing is how participants should act if they dislike the idea that their contribution of processing resources will potentially be used to profit the author of a session. Currently we offer no other solution than detaching the computing resources from the project.

In the future we hope to be working on a solution where authors will be able to flag sessions as non-commercial when submitting them to the service. This would mean that clients that have chosen to not want to participate in potentially commercial renders would be able to choose which Creative Commons licenses to support.
