No access to renderfarm.fi
Hello everybody,
I am from Germany, please excuse my English, if it is bad sometimes.
I created an account today and tried to use the renderfarm option in my blender build. I use daily builds of graphicall.org. I activated the addon and made the render settings for my file. All ticks were green and the 'Login to renderfarm panel' showed "E-mail and password entered".
But when I click on 'Render on renderfarm.fi' or 'check for new version' I get an error message (see pic links below).
http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/7948/renderfarm3.png
http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/9352/renderfarm4.png
I use ubuntu 10.04 64bit. The Terminal shows:
found bundled python: /home/max/BlenderBuildsFish/16022011/MitOpenMP/blender25/2.56/python
Traceback (most recent call last):

layout.prop(game, "use_animation_recording")
^
IndentationError: unindent does not match any outer indentation level
Then a bunch of addons are getting reloaded and at the end it shows:
Unhandled error: 'module' object has no attribute 'HTTPSConnection'.
When trying to check for a latest version I get:
ERROR: <Fault 801: "redstone.xmlrpc.XmlRpcFault: BlenderHandler.getCurrentVersion: nice try but that can't be true">
Well, so much for the problem I have with ubuntu. The same problems though occurs under windows xp pro sp2. With windows I also used a current build from graphicall.org. Just to be on the safe side I also tried the blender renderfarm special edition, and it made no difference.
It makes me insecure that renderfarm neither works with ubuntu nor with windows and I wonder if the mistake is mine. Did I miss any adjustments, forgot a tick or forgot anything else to do? I would be extremly grateful if someone could help.
Best regards
Uwe
Hello Gekko,
thank you very much fo your reply.
I had already tried the solution you mention in your answer (http://www.renderfarm.fi/forum/post/2059?page=2#comment-1141) as well as the special edition blender version you offer. Just this minute I tried the version check again and it still doesn't work.
Don't know, obviously something fundamentally is going wrong in my system. It's really very frustrating and annoying, because I have a series of 4275 images, that must be rendered and at a rough guess this will take about 40 hours. Do you know another option to get my sequence rendered, if I don't mange to use renderfarm?
Best regards
Uwe
EDIT: BTW do I have to install BOINC first before I can use the file upload in blender? And do you have links, where I can get more information about setting up blender to get ready to upload?
How recent is the version of Renderfarm.fi Blender that you are using?
You can submit a session with the upload webform as well: http://www.renderfarm.fi/help/prepare-upload
You don't have to install BOINC for submitting render jobs. All you have to do is register to Renderfarm.fi and use your email and password for logging in.
Helo Gekko,
thank you.
At the moment I use a version dated 16022011 of this blender build http://www.graphicall.org/builds/builds/showbuild.php?action=show&id=1227] by Fish.
But as mentioned renderfarm also doesn't work on my windows system. I use windows xp pro with service pack 2. When I tested renderfarm on Windows I used a blender build from graphicall.org dated 28022011.
Best regards
Uwe
Hello all together,
I finally managed to upload my file and everything seemed to work fine. Previously I didn't realize that there was a validation email in my email account too. Was this the reason why I couldn't login in blender?
Anyhow this time I used the webform upload you suggested Gekko. The rendering was successful and the mp4 files are totally perfect.
Now I started the download of the PNGs with CATS. The programm worked a while and then finally finished the download. I opened the directory I chose for the download but well, the directory was empty. It contains only one single PNG, obviously the first one of the frame range that includes 4.275 images. Further more one of the textures is missing, there is no sky. What went wrong?
I used the search option in my file manager, but it can't find files with the name I chose as file name. I am very confused, because CATS seemed to download all long.
Best regards
Uwe
I checked that the frames are indeed downloadable through CATS. I think that you might have accidentally only set your system to download the first frame. Try running the download again, this time putting the download range from 2 to 4275.
What comes to the missing sky texture, you might want to check that you actually followed the instructions on how to pack all textures in to the .blend file.
Hello prodigal_son,
thanks for your reply.
No, I chose Frame 1 up to 4.275 as shown on the picture below.

In the filename syntax line I set "AuraNew_7.png" as the name for the images. I thought the images would be named AuraNew_70001.png, AuraNew_70002.png and so on up to AuraNew_74275.png then. Was that a mistake? I must confess I was insecure if I had set the name correctly.
As for the sky texture that was missing in the downloaded image: Yes I read the instructions and packed all external data into the blend file and as I already mentioned, I downloaded the rendered mp4 files before and they were correct.
What else can be the reason for the failed download?
Than you very much.
Best regards
Uwe
@animax,
The top entry is the path (.../Blender/ProjecktAura/...) and the 'Filename syntax:' is the filename. I think you entered a path that doesn't exist.
Try a 'Filename syntax:' of "AuraNew_7%f3id.%ftype" to get the filenames your looking for. Though be warned that the frame sequence will be a little messed up. "%f3id" means 3 zeros, so you'll get...
AuraNew_7001.png
AuraNew_7002.png
AuraNew_7003.png
...then...
AuraNew_7999.png
AuraNew_71000.png
You can try "%f4id" to get 4 zeros (AuraNew_70001.png-AuraNew_74275.png). It's an undocumented feature, but I haven't tested it lately.
@prodigal, has anyone had a chance to look at my CATS fixes?
Hey Overkill. I posted a question on the subject to jbk on our board. Let's see what he replies.
Hello overkill,
thank you very much. I used the filename syntax that you suggested (see picture below), checked it out with a series of three images and it worked fine.

So another problem solved. :-)
BTW the download path was correct because I used the browse button to select the directory.
But can anyone tell me why I still get the images with the sky missing whereas the sky texture must have been packed into the blend file because the mp4 files show it as seen below?

Hey and welcome to Renderfarm.fi!
The unintend error doesn't seem to relate to the uploader script and that problem might not be related to the uploading at all.
The Graphicall builds don't have a necessary fix in them. The upcoming version of Blender should be using Python 3.2 (hopefully) and this issue should be fixed, but for the moment you must either use our version of Blender (www.renderfarm.fi/blender) or add the fix manually. See this thread for instructions: http://www.renderfarm.fi/forum/post/2059?page=2#comment-1141
The error in the version check seems to be due to a problem at our end. I should change the active version number again. Sorry about this.
EDIT: The version check should work now
