session 545 stopped at 99.04%
My session 545 stopped at 99.04 ;_(
Also my computer doesn't get any new tasks since 4 cest.
What happend? What can I do?
Hm, I asked myself already what would happend when I swiched off my computer for some time during it is working on some tasks.
My answer was, that surely after some time the tasks would be given to other computers, at least when there are idle ones.
So I guess, thats not the case?
Are there no other renderings at the farm sine 4 CEST??
Thank you for your reply and sorry for my noob questions, I'm new to renderfarm.fi
yeah, you´re right, after a certain amount of time the tasks are given to other clients, I don´t know how long that is.
Furthermore, as far as I know, every part is rendered 3 times to ensure the result is correctly rendered.
No prob about your questions ;)
Do you have an idea, why my computer doesn't get any new tasks? Aren't there no more sessions since 4 CEST?
It's a bit sad that my computer ist idle for many hours during my session hangs at the same time at 99% ;_(
Yours is finished already, with the other one it´s the same as with yours before.
The ones in waiting line need to be manually checked by the renderfarm team, before they are distributed
@shay-tal,
Each workunit (frame, or part of a frame) needs to be rendered 3 times to compare the results for success. The clients are given almost 24 hours to respond. Most respond within an hour, but when someone shuts down their computer (while rendering), the server has to wait the full 24 hours before declaring the work overdue (and resend the job to another client).
So all the work can be sent out quickly, but it won't be sent out again unless a (24hr) timeout occurs. That's why is seems like the last 10% takes forever.
Your session had 314 parts (314*3=942 workunits). With 1,000 clients, all the work will be sent out (in a few minutes?). And you won't get any more work until someone fails to report a task.
They are working on a way to give priority to "reliable clients" so this happens less often.
Ah great, thx!
I was just searching for beginners tutorial, a wiki or something simular, cause I have a couple of new questions and i guess this might going on for some time :)
Isn't there something like this?
Thank you for your explanation overkill!
I think i understand. Probably some people just don't know that they can cause a 24h delay when they turn off there computer. At least i would not have guessed this.
No problem shay-tal,
There is some info at the About Page (http://www.renderfarm.fi/about) and there is also a FAQ (http://www.renderfarm.fi/faq).
There is also the Burp project (http://burp.renderfarming.net/). From my understanding, most of the server work is done there, while renderfarm.fi is attempting to make it more user friendly. It's a combined effort.
Hope it helps.
One person turning off their computer isn't going to delay the session by 24h; IIRC the minimum quorem for completion is 2. But, there are inevitably a few WUs that get a lot of people who are after the deadline, have errors or other problems. I wouldn't render anything time-sensitive here, since there are so many factors that go into the real time it takes for a session to complete rendering.
And, for those who are wondering about their contributions being lost--most WUs will still receive credit even if they are turned in after the deadline. The short deadlines are in place to try and get everything rendered as quickly as possible, and sometimes people get worked up about that.
If you are concerned about your computer being idle, you could always add other BOINC projects to pick up the slack between sessions. If you set one or more at a project resource share of zero, then they will only do work when there isn't any for Renderfarm.fi. One such project you may be interested in (where the development for this project's software started) is the Big and Ugly Rendering Project, at burp.renderfarming.net .

I wouldnt worry right now, this occures at every session.
Main reason I think is, that all parts are delivered to clients (thats why you dont get new ones), but there are slow clients on the network, where usually the last parts "hang".
I´ve had sessions going to 99% in a day, then needed another day for the last 1% ;)
