Hey guys. Well I finally got around to fix the super annoying WYSIWYG issues that everybody probably was kind of suffering of. In the process we flung FCKeditor overboard and moved to use CKEditor (the new version of the same great software).

Now you're finally able to post using styling and even add images to posts (using a valid URL to provide the picture - amazing;), like this:

Hope you like this. We still don't support BBCode as many of you would have probably liked, but I think that it's quite unnecessary to do so as the Drupal seems quite cabable of handling any security issues that might arise with HTML.

What I'll do next is look into the possibility of providing a direct upload possibility for all users to upload images to the site. This can be then used to provide preview images and reference pictures to renders etc. Cheers!

User Storage

It's low priority, but a little storage space (even 1MB) would be nice. I've wanted to put up a preview image or screenshot, but it seemed like too much work to upload to an image hosting site.

Three (Website) Things

@prodigal

I see you fixed the sorting of messages in the forum. Thanks.

(One) Is there a way to make the "Latest Posts" block jump to the proper page when looking at long multi-page threads? Clicking the message subject (from the latest posts block) takes you to page 1 of the thread, not the page with the comment.

Like this... http://www.renderfarm.fi/forum/post/2052#comment-913

(Two) I assume it's on the list, but I was researching drupal maintenance pages for a friend. Found this http://drupal.org/node/195435 Basically, you make a copy of the page.tpl.php, modify it to be a static maintenance page (no database calls), and edit the config file to point to it when in maintenance mode.

I have an idea for the page, but not sure I can pull it off quickly. A render of grey aliens standing around a rack of servers like in the meltdown picture with lots of light coming out (like the barn in the web header).

And (Three) is the user storage space idea possible with a simple drupal config?

Messages on forums + Maintenance page

Sorry about that sorting thing taking so long. I just misunderstood when you posted about previously. Don't know how I managed to though as it should have jumped at it immediately. I just realized the issue after the forums started filling up finally.

  1. I think you can actually get rid of the page issue by just setting the amount of comments per page higher in your "Comment viewing options" available under each thread. You can then save the setting and it will remember it for you the next time you log in. It's an annoying bug in the Advanced Forum module version that we're using. As soon as Advanced Forum v2 is released stable, I'll start looking at migrating. I think it should add a lot of basic functionality to the forum that has been missing so far.
  2. I'll be setting up a proper maintenance page as soon as I get an image I ordered from my dear friend and Renderfarm.fi artist extraordinaire - Jerico. I had a somewhat similar crazy idea for it and it will feature some crazy whitesuit scientists from a 50s timewarp working on the next "big thing". Thank you alot for the link and the offer though. Really appreciate it!
  3. I'll try to look for some combination of modules could achieve this neatly. I'm not sure it's possible without some serious hacking though, and currently I'm afraid most of the serious hacking (something that I'm not capable of pulling off for sure) will need to go to other things. If I find something I'll post it here.

Free external file storage

I just misunderstood when you posted about previously.

I don't think I mentioned it, but thanks for fixing it anyway.

I think I finally found a good solution on the user storage issue.

dropbox.com

It's probably "overkill" for hosting image files on a forum, but it works pretty well.

They only ask for an email address (registration), then give you 2GB of storage. They have private and public folders where you can get "public urls" to paste on the internet.

They also have a sync tool that lets you mount the service as a drive/folder on your computer so you don't have to "upload".

Hope it helps
