Hello!

I just downloaded the CATS application to download my files but when I hit start monitorintg, I get a permissions error. Looks like CATS does not have permissions to create files on my Mac (Lion). I tried disk utility and repaired all permissions but still does not work. Any suggestions?

thanks,

rich!

What happens if you launch

What happens if you launch cats via the terminal? This is done by "java -jar cats_bundled.jar" in the directory where you downloaded it. Also, what is your Java version? There have been some problems with Java on OS X previously, here at least. There may have been an other thread too, lemme google (we don't have forum search yet :S)

I was able to download CATS

I was able to download CATS on another Mac (Computer) running Lion and it it did not give me the permissions problem.

Then I re-downloaded on the first Mac that was having the problem. THis time I did not move the cats jar file as I did the first time. And this time it allowed me to dowload. So I

think the problem is funky unix style permissions - perhaps it needs to run from and download files into the same directory...

THanks,

rich

If you were an IT

If you were an IT professional you probably wouldn't have anything to render here :-)

CAT burp folder

I did some testing today and found that I had to create a "burp" folder in my home directory for CATS to work.

Also noticed some proxy issues, but will wait for another post (until I can track it down).

But it works fine without a proxy (and if you have a "burp" folder).

Thank You

I'm finally able to download files. Sweet Minty Jesus. I searched this entire forum trying to find the solution. This was very helpful and this worked for me.

BTW I think MAC are REAL computers, most professional working artists, myself included use MAC here in the US. Every studio I've ever worked for I've had a Mac. Anyway thanks again.

Yep, had the same problem and

Yep, had the same problem and ended up with the same solution. I created a burp folder under my root directory and it works. It gives you the option to change the file path, but it gives me a permissions arror every time. I wonder if thats a bug they are working on.

On a related note about CATS:

I'm new to renderfarm.fi so I'm really learning as I go. I uploaded a file a few hours ago to be rendered, but it hasn't started yet. I can see the Session sitting in CATS (8359) as well as 50 other files, but they don't seem to be ordered in priority or anything. I guess I was just wondering how long do things normally sit in the queue before starting to render? I have around 250 credits at the moment, but I have no idea how much value that has or what factor it plays in waiting.

Sessions are usually accepted

Sessions are usually accepted within 24 hours. Hopefully one day we can figure out how to do all this automatically and remove the human labour entirely.
