"What is Renderfarm.fi?" hits 10,000 views, fast competition!

Our "What is Renderfarm.fi?" video released just a mere three months ago has reached a pretty venerable 10,000 views on our Youtube channel! In case you're one of the few to have missed the video, here's your chance. I cannot express how happy I am that the video has been so well received by everybody out there. It seems people are having as much fun watching the video as we had making it. Since it's release, we've received nearly 2000 new registrants with no end in sight. I think we can expect to reach our 5000th registered user by time for this year's SIGGRAPH and ASSEMBLY 2011 (we'll be present in both of these wonderful computer graphics festivals, more about these in a later post).

I thought I'd use this opportunity to promote our online presence. In case you'd like to be informed about new articles and such on your favourite social media, like us or fan us if you haven't done so already. If you'd like to chat with us face to face (in case you require assistance etc), you can also now find us on Freenode IRC (Internet Relay Chat) on channel #Renderfarm.fi. To celebrate both our upcoming 5000th registrant and the full variety of ways you all are able to contact us through, we're launching a small competition:

Can you guess who's the voice of Big Buck Bunny on the video? The best or funniest answer (doesn't even need to be the right one!) posted as a comment here on Renderfarm.fi (under this article), tweeted to us on Twitter and left as a comment on Youtube or Facebook will each receive a special prize by mail. We'll choose the winners in the next few days. The winners will be contacted for their addresses through which ever media they chose to use for their entry. Be quick as we're only rewarding one entry from each media! Who could it be? Ton Roosendaal? McGyver? Big Buck Bunny himself? Be seeing you! :)

Private messages now in use !

And yeah, after a really exhausting but also efficient day, we're glad to announce that the private messages (PM) are now in use. We went to PM as we don't want to spam you with mails (or at least not for the moment) :).

We made a much nicer place to them, so you won't be able to miss the new private messages that are incoming! They'll now appear on the top right corner of each page.

We made so that you'll have a confirmation with PM at almost every step of the rendering process:

-when your session is being queued
-when an admin accepts/rejects it (this would also include a detailed message of why it has been rejected)
-when your session completes

We hope that this will clarify a bit more the way our service is working and avoid to let people behind.

Other plans are also being discussed to make this workflow as customizable as possible ... but for this you would need to wait a little bit more ;)

I'm also happy announce that you can follow us on Twitter as "RendefarmFi". We'll now tweet when a session completes so you can be the first being up-to-date !

Renderfarm.fi is now on Facebook

I'd like to invite everybody to join our newly founded Facebook group. I think it's natural for us to expand our horizons in to promoting Blender 2.5 and publicly distributed rendering on the bigger social media platforms.

Personally I believe they may work as a way for us to get new Blender (potential new BOINC users) and BOINC (potential new Blender users) users on to the service. So please feel free (khrm .. obliged <clears throat>) to join us and invite any friends to join as well. You can find us on Facebook by following this link.
