Sessions

Adding a production blog / webpage to your session

For anybody who might have missed this, the reason why we let users provide a "Project URL" in the uploader is that it lets the "animator" add a project page or production blog URL to their animation easily:

We'll soon (within a week) be adding this field to the animation display in a similar way to what is being done with sessions linked to Wreckamovie.com shots (see example). An icon displaying the words "production page" will be added to animations / stills, the icon will then link to the URL provided by the user upon commit.

So if you're hosting a home page about your renders, having a production blog about your movie (whether on Renderfarm.fi, Wreckamovie.com or any other place) feel free to use the field to advertise it.

Attaching final versions to sessions

I would like to ask you guys how should the functionality giving the "animator" (meaning the creator of any given animation session) a way to post the final, composited version of their work on the website and link it to a session (or sessions for that matter). I think that this could be an important feature for many, as we right now don't offer a nice way of posting such things. This could also help people promote their productions.

Two ideas that I've come up with so far have been:

  • Let the "animator" add a link (with one click) to the finished post on Vimeo or Youtube video to a node
  • Make a completely free "wall" for people to post works that have used Renderfarm.fi, this would enable promoting all kinds of uses - not just videos

Now that I think about it, should we maybe use both options and just make a one-click "add link" field to the session under which the "animator" can attach any link. We could then make a page which aggregates these actions, collecting some additional info from the link added to the session.

So what do you guys think? All suggestions are highly appreciated and will be taken into consideration.

Sessions page getting there ..

I think it's safe to say that we can soon leave the old Server status / sessions pages to history and move on to supporting a single session / gallery page. We started using all the data from the Drupal database instead and made some small javascript stuff to make the gallery/session page a little more interactive.

On a second note, I can't for the life of me seem to get the annoying CKEditor IFRAME to display with white background on the sessions/gallery page. It always seems to prefer to show the background image (with the farm). If anybody has any suggestions to correct this, please shoot.
