Assembly 2009

Download Twang - the song used in the Assembly 2009 commercial

Hi all,

As I'm not much of a modeler and even less of an animator myself, I thought I'd somehow contribute and release "Twang" as CC by-NC-SA on Renderfarm.fi. The song was used in the Assembly 2009 commercial. I made it in September 2007 - although I can't specifically remember why I made it, it must have been one crazy and inspirational evening. Maybe this post will also inspire other users of the service to release what ever art, sounds or music they feel could inspire the community. In case you would like to do so, please send me a private message or post your feature request to the forum. I'm currently thinking of the best way to enable users to upload their images and sounds to blogs. Hope you enjoy this catchy pop song - not. ;)

Assembly 2009 is over, so how was it?

It's monday and time to get back to the normal routines (although I'm personally off for vacations now). I thought I'd sum up my personal experiences about Assembly 2009 in my blog just fast.

All in all the fair went really well and personally I had a blast. My last visit to the happening had been 12 years ago, in 1997, and I was really surprised how fun the event still was - especially if you feel you can contribute to the cause in some way.

I was greatly helped by all the enthusiastic people from the Laurea SIDLabs and all the Blender knowledgeable guys from the IRC channel #blender.fi. All in all I reckon we got about 300-400 visitors to the stand during the long weekend, some stayed for more, some for less, but most - I think - got to understand what the service is about. We got some 70 participants to the competition for the t-shirts and Blender Essentials -book. The winners have been all notified by email and/or by phone.

A more detailed post about the proceedings at the happening will be following, but I thought I'd post a couple of pics just as a "teaser". All photos in this post courtesy of Hege.

PS. With the success of the Assembly 2009 participation, we will be checking out the possibility to participate at the AltParty also. What do you think?

Cheers,

Julius

Renderfarm.fi stand at Assembly 2009

I thought i'd post these preliminary (can be subject to small changes) schedule for the stand (located in the Lapin Kulta area of Hartwall Arena):

  • Thursday 6.8.2009 from 12.00 - 20.00
  • Friday 7.8.2009 from 11.00 - 20.00
  • Saturday 8.8.2009 from 10.00 - 20.00
  • Sunday 9.8.2009 from 10.00 - 14.00

I'm excited to say that we're doing collaboration with the good people from the IRC channel #blender.fi. This means that almost all the time there will be somebody showing off Blender and explaining how to model and animate with it.

Special Blender program on Saturday 8.8.2009:

Myself and Nathan Letwory (jesterKing) will be presenting in the ArtTech 2009 festival on saturday from 13.00-14.00 (Finnish time, CET+2). The presentation can be followed through AssemblyTV and will be made available as Video-on-Demand within 12 hours of the presentation on the Assembly website.

Apart from this, we're preparing a special program for saturday 8.8.2009 and should you come by the Renderfarm.fi stand at almost any time during the day (apart from the seminar session, when you should definately be at the seminar hall), we will have Blender and Blender 2.5 demoing, Renderfarm.fi demoing etc.

Finally the you should also come to just participate in the competition and win either a Renderfarm.fi t-shirt or a "Essential Blender" book by Roland Hesse. Prizes are drawn daily!
