Blender 2.59 - your 3D software
Blender is the most popular open source 3D suite in the world. Even for software with a long history standing back from the nineties, it's latest incarnation - Blender 2.59 - can be recognized as a true milestone. It's new and it's fast! The entire UI core has been rewritten from scratch, both easing the learning curve as offering experienced artists a more contemporarily user experience.
Established production tools have been brought back from the previous series, with new tools, such as smoke-simulation, multithreaded sculpting, interactive realtime cloth- and softbody simulation, particle-fluids and a brand new Python API being introduced which allows scripts to fully configure Blender's interface.
Professional freelancers and studios use Blender
Being spread as a free and open product, it's evident there's a huge following world-wide of amateurs and hobbyists. That's why an obvious question is still raised often: "Can you use Blender for serious production?". The answer is: Absolutely yes! There are literally hundreds of examples of successful companies that use Blender in their day to day business. Blender always has been targeted at professionals and in daily development many professionals and studios help out with improving Blender for their daily work. For starters, just check out the fantastic open movies produced by the Blender Foundation: Sintel (2010), Big Buck Bunny (2008) and Elephant's Dream (2006).
Your own in-house software
Blender Foundation's and community's main goal is to deliver individual artists and small teams a 3D production environment that's similar to having an in-house development team for tools. For this reason Blender covers the full range of animation and CG production, ranging from modeling and animation to compositing and video editing. Our free/open license and online projects make Blender truly "your own software". In cases Blender can't do what you require it to do, you can simply connect to developers to achieve that for you. So why wait, download Blender for free (now and for always).
Using Renderfarm.fi directly from within Blender
Accessibility is a key issue to any service looking to gain acceptance. For this reason, we've created a python script that makes it possible for a user to upload render sessions to Renderfarm.fi directly from an instance of Blender. All you need to do is to go to File > User Preferences > Add-ons > Render and check the box next to the Renderfarm.fi add-on. Now you are able to access the script directly from within the render engines tab in your main window. The script also checks that the scene settings are correct in order for the render to succeed. Note that in order to send work to Renderfarm.fi through the uploader, you still need to own an account on the service. You will find the simple instructions for using the uploader from here.
