Welcome to our Assembly 2010 page! We'll be publishing all related information + photos from the event on this page. The page is intended to act as means to communicate between us and you. You're free to post any comments at the end of the page.

The Renderfarm.fi / Laurea University of Applied Sciences stand will be entertaining some very interesting guests this year, as during the extended weekend we will actually host both Janus Bager Kristensen (alias jbk, Main Developer for our back-end, BURP) and Kalle Max Hofmann (of Snowblind and Vampyre Princess 3D fame). Apart from this meaning a lot of good development work with BURP guru Kristensen, we're also excited about having a established movie maker like Kalle as our visitor. Well what is he doing there, you may ask? You'll need to stay tuned for more news - we've been slowly working away on some nice stuff that will be announced at the event.

ArtTech 2010 presentation (sat 7.8.2010, seminar hall)

11:00-12:00 Julius Tuomisto (Renderfarm.fi) & Janus Bager Kristensen (BURP): "Accessible publicly distributed rendering: BURP and Renderfarm.fi"

Renderfarm.fi and BURP will also be presented at the ArtTech 2010 seminar held yearly in conjunction with Assembly 2010. This year we're happy to announce that Renderfarm.fi representative Julius Tuomisto (alias prodigal_son) will be joined by Janus Bager Kristensen (Head of Development for BURP, The Big and Ugly Rendering Project, alias jbk). Here's the depiction of the overall topic of the ArtTech presentation from the seminar's webpages:

The presentation demonstrates BURP, an open source software that, by using the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC) framework, enables the distributed rendering of 3D graphics over the Internet using a network of volunteer computers. While covering the basics of the technology, the presenters will discuss the motivation and key topics in making the technology and why they believe in making the technology available to as many people as possible. Topics covered include employing Creative Commons licensing and an entirely bottom-up, user-centric, job submission model in a volunteer computing project. The presenters will talk about the future of BURP and discuss the ongoing development of the Renderfarm.fi publicly distributed rendering service, which aims to make publicly distributed rendering as accessible as possible.

The good news for anybody interested is that all sessions will be video recorded and made available as video on demand on FTP/WWW servers at www.assemblytv.net. Likely we'll also be interviewed for AssemblyTV (broadcasted during the weekend, I'll post the time when I know) and the interview will be edited into a 10 minute long program. It will be broadcasted during the weekend - the time will be posted on this page when it is known. Notice: You can also see our previous year's (ArtTech 2009) presentation (Julius Tuomisto / Renderfarm.fi and Nathan Letwory / Blender Foundation) here.Edit 11.9.2010: You can now watch the presentation on Vimeo:

This year ArtTech is literally packed with interesting talks by people such as John Buckman (Chairman of the Board, EFF - Electronic Frontier Foundation) and Peter Sunde Kolmisoppi (Co-founder of Pirate Bay and Flattr.com).
